While the growth is mainly due to container freight, which was up by 2 percent in terms of tonnage, breakbulk cargo increased by 8.3 percent to 2.5 million tonnes and ro-ro cargo also saw an increase, reaching 1.2 million tonnes - an increase of 5.3 percent.

The port authority claims the good performance of the breakbulk sector is largely due to the steel volumes handled at the port, which increased by 14.7 percent year-on-year.
