September 29 - ALS has shipped its longest single piece of cargo to date, moving a 71 m Mobile Offshore Production Unit riser from Dunkirk, France to Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The company said the cargo measured 71.48 m long, 4.36 m diameter and weighed more than 448 tonnes.

ALS's ocean project team, based in Moerdijk, The Netherlands, chartered a vessel with an unobstructed hold length of 75 m to carry the piece, which was eventually unloaded on site in the Mussafah yard terminal, Abu Dhabi.

ALS handled the charter, loading and lashing plan, method statement, risk assessment and completion of the transport manual. To ensure the operation ran smoothly, a qualified surveyor was appointed at both ports.
