Bristow Group has acquired heavy lift operator Columbia Helicopters, in a transaction worth approximately USD560 million.

Based in Oregon, Columbia Helicopters provides heavy lift helicopter operations, including maintenance, repair, and overhaul services, specialising in remote areas. HLPFI reported in September that Columbia Helicopters partnered with Hybrid Air Freighters (HAF) to offer services to the oil and gas, mining and construction industries.

As part of the agreement, Columbia Helicopters will be responsible for operating HAF’s Lockheed Martin LMH-1 airships; HAF will be responsible for managing them.

Columbia Helicopters will operate as a standalone subsidiary of Bristow Group and the deal is expected to close on December 31, 2018. Together, the companies will have 304 operating aircraft.
