August 19 - DB Schenker has opened its largest Australian supply chain and warehouse facility at the Redbank Motorway Estate in Ipswich, Queensland.

The German-headquartered integrated logistics provider, which completed its 50-year anniversary in Australia last year, will spend over USD40 million over the next decade on the 85,000 sq m site, which has warehouse coverage of 31,500 sq m.

The Redbank site will handle more than 5,200 container movements a year, transporting goods to locations across Australia.

Ron Koehler, ceo at Schenker Australia, said that the new centre would play a key role in meeting growing demand for the company's supply chain services, including container and truck unloading, receiving, storage, despatch and distribution, along with inventory management.

Koehler added that the site's location is "attractive given the Federal Government's recent commitment to infrastructure investment in the region, including major road works and the development of a heavy rail line from the Port of Brisbane through to Toowoomba."

Ipswich Mayor, Paul Pisasale added that the new facility would bring a wide variety of job skills and opportunities to the region.
