Geodis adds senior names

July 23 - Global logistics provider Geodis has made two senior appointments across its business units.

Rene Bach-Larsen has been appointed cluster managing director of Singapore and South East Asia of Geodis Wilson.

Geodis Wilson offers a full range of logistics and freight forwarding services including marine logistics, industrial project cargo transport, warehousing and distribution, as well as air and sea freight consolidation/deconsolidation in the region.

Bach-Larsen said regarding his new role: "The South-East Asia market - Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam - is certainly often overlooked as a growth area because of its modest size compared to the biggest players China and India.

"However, from a global perspective, it is actually a key area. It has weathered the global recession well and is experiencing rapid growth. I am confident that we can take advantage of this growth and our broad service offering to become a key player in this region."

Succeeding Bach-Larsen is Leif Voelcker, who has been named managing director of Geodis India and will also take charge of managing Geodis' South Asian cluster organisation.

Voelcker has over 21 years of experience in the freight forwarding business, building up a strong background in project logistics in the process.

Within the next five years Geodis plans to double its present size in India - it currently operates 15 offices employing over 300 staff.  "I am keen to strengthen the relationship with our local customer base that is benefiting from the strong growth of the Indian economy and the consequent increase in domestic demand and international transport requirements," said Voelcker.
