February 6 - The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the proposal of four new container terminal projects and one multipurpose cargo berth project.
The multipurpose cargo berth proposed for the Mumbai Port Trust will handle iron and steel project cargoes and automobiles, and is expected to benefit local industries, said the CCEA.
The proposed container port projects are expected to double the container handling capacity of the ports of Kandla, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Ennore and Kolkata.
