Jumbo has been awarded the contract to transport and install wind turbine structures for the Yunlin offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

Jumbo was awarded the contract earlier this year by Yunneng Windpower, a Taiwanese subsidiary of Germany-headquartered wpd.

Jumbo’s project scope includes the transportation of 40 monopiles, 120 monopile sections and 40 transition pieces, as well as the offshore installation of 80 transition pieces.

Preparation and planning works have already begun, with the first delivery scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2019; equipment installation will begin in mid-2020.

Jumbo will use its K-class and J-class vessels, plus third-party heavy lift vessels and deck carriers, to ship the cargoes from Europe to Taiwan. J-class ships will be used for the installation operations.

“The Yunlin project is the largest single contract we have been awarded in our 50-year history, and it is particularly special as it allows us to combine the strengths of both our shipping and offshore divisions,” said Michael Kahn, managing director at Jumbo.
