L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE) has awarded Mammoet a contract for heavy lift works as part of the Visakh refinery modernisation project in India, which is scheduled to take place in March 2019.

Mammoet will deploy its 3,200-tonne capacity MSG 80 ring crane to erect columns and reactors at the project site. The heaviest component, according to Mammoet, will be a 50 m-long reactor weighing 1,650 tonnes.

As the ring crane can lift several items from a single position, due to its height and reach, the MSG 80 is the most efficient solution for the project, says Mammoet.

A total of five lifts are scheduled for the project: a vacuum column, a crude column, two reactors and a heavy fractionator.

The expansion of the existing Visakh refinery began in early 2017.
