October 5 - Peters & May, in conjunction with Marine Invest, have signed an exclusive agreement securing the use of the patented Flat Rail system in the UK, Italy and the USA.
Peters & May says that the news system will allow it to ship yachts between 13.00 m and 16.50 m in length on a 40ft flat rack instead of the traditional method of shipment which can sometimes prove uneconomical for yachts in this size bracket.
The company adds that this system has the added advantages of allowing it to ship to a wider range of destinations with a higher level of frequency together with financial savings that Peters & May can pass on to its clients.
The inventors of the Falt Rail system say that its specially-designed beams are twist-locked to the flat rack container frame. Slings can then be connected in record time to the spreader and the OOG cargo can be loaded onboard in as fast as in 15 minutes instead of one hour. Marine Invent adds that OOG cargoes can be of any shape: sailing boats, industrial tanks, construction equipment, large crates, wind turbine blades but they cannot exceed 34 tonnes and cannot be over 16.50 m long.
Elsewhere, Peters & May has named Edward Morgan (pictured below) as its general manager to lead operations in the USA, based at the company's offices in Chicago.
Morgan comes to the US from the United Arab Emirates, where he served as manager of the Yacht & Marine Division of Consolidated Shipping Services, LLC, the Peters & May agent in the UAE.
