Strategic Asian-Pacific infrastructure projects listed

August 17 - The inaugural preliminary list of the top 100 strategic infrastructure projects in Asia-Pacific has been published by The Southeast Asia Strategic Infrastructure Leadership Forum.

Project cargo forwarders and heavy lift operators in the region will be able to seek work in the projects.

Strategic infrastructure is taken by the Forum to mean those projects that are critical to productivity, and to the long-term competitiveness of a country or region.

Southeast Asia economies grew at average of seven percent in 2010 and strategic infrastructure development supports the vision of ASEAN leaders to build a well-connected, more competitive and resilient region as poor infrastructure is perhaps the most binding constraint to growth throughout Southeast Asia.

Rapid population growth and urbanisation threaten to exacerbate infrastructure bottlenecks.

The list represents over USD234 billion in strategic infrastructure in the region that will drive economic growth, increase connectivity and reduce poverty. Projects include Brunei Airport expansion, Bangkok Chiang-Mai HiSpeed train, Singapore LNG Secondary Berth Project and the Abbot Point Coal Terminal expansion.

The inaugural forum will be held in Singapore, from November 28 - 30, 2011.
