Terex makes site and staff cuts

December 15 - Terex Cranes has revealed plans to sell its components and parts facility in Pecs, Hungary, consolidate its three manufacturing operations in Zweibrücken, Germany into two, and reduce its global workforce by around 30 percent.

The company will continue manufacturing of Demag crawler and all terrain crane lines in its Dinglerstrasse and Wallerscheid locations in Zweibrücken and will make investments in both facilities to support ongoing operations.

However, Terex has confirmed that it will cease machine production at its Bierbach facility in 2017 and the facility will then be sold.

Terex describes these measures as part of its consolidation and cost alignment strategies, which aim to make more efficient use of its manufacturing footprint. In 2016, Terex consolidated all North American crane production into its existing manufacturing facility in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The pending sale of Terex's material handling and port solutions (MHPS) business to Konecranes will also include the production facility in Montceau-les-Mines, France. Production of the four all-terrain cranes currently manufactured here will be absorbed by other Terex manufacturing locations.

"While these decisions are difficult to make, they are necessary to build a stronger, more focused and efficient Terex Cranes that will continue to innovate and grow," said Terex Cranes president Steve Filipov. "The steps taken will allow us to continue to invest in product innovation and service to drive customer satisfaction and the resulting business success."
