November 5 - The Spanish division of heavy lift and specialised transport company ALE has executed a pair or over-dimensional project moves.

ALE performed the transportation of 650-tonne cold box from its fabrication yard to a loading quay some 700 m away, at the port of Tarragona. ALE initially weighed the cold box by jacking up the unit by means of self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT).

Because the of cold box dimensions, which were 36.6 m x 15.6 m x 12 m, a number of obstacles along the route needed to be avoided. Once in the quay, the cold box was loaded onboard a lo-lo vessel by means of two ship cranes.

Meanwhile in Gijon, ALE executed the weighing and load-out of an 860-tonne heater module. Weighing was completed using 24 hydraulic jacks, each with a 100-tonne capacity, prior to loading on to 48 axle lines of SPMTs for load-out onto a RollDock vessel.
