October 7 - Arkon Shipping and Best Logistics have celebrated the inauguration of their heavy lift and general cargo shuttle service: the Baltic Cargo Shuttle (BCS).

The first act of the new service was to load two Alstom Power generators and their auxiliaries onboard the Akron vessel, Lyra J.

A 230-tonne generator being loaded onboard Lyra J. The unit will be shipped to Flushing before being forwarded to Basra in Iraq.

This 360-tonne generator will be shipped to Antwerp, where it will be transhiped on to Chipolbrok's Leopold Staff and delivered to Mumbai.

The BCS will operate as a feeder service between the Antwerp-Hamburg range and the Baltic Sea using tween-deck vessels with a heavy lifting capacity of 400 tonnes. Arkon says the new service will call at ports where heavy lift shore cranes are not available, and modern vessels will enable it to comply with European emission control area regulations.
