May 23 - A Volga-Dnepr Airlines' AN-124-100 freighter chartered by Chapman Freeborn has carried a 22-ton (22.35-tonne) multi-stage press coil to the Congo to help progress the modernisation of the country's power generation.

The shipment was transported from Chalons, France to Lumumbashi, Congo, with the help of Volga-Dnepr's technical engineers, who designed a special platform to load the outsize cargo.

The aircraft's 30-ton (30.48-tonne) capacity crane was also used to lift the press coil safely into the cargo hold. The unit will be installed in a power station at one of Congo's copper producing mines as part of the upgrading of its energy generation infrastructure.

"The coordination between Volga-Dnepr Airlines' sales, customer services and operations teams was smooth and at all departments worked well with CF Africa to overcome any issues in good time," said Iain Clark, Director of Chapman Freeborn Africa.
