Sarens set for Mozambique branch

Heavy lift and engineered transport provider, Sarens, is set to open a branch and depot in Mozambique.

Located just outside of Palma, Sarens said the opening of the branch is in anticipation of the Mozambique LNG project, which is expected to receive a financial investment decision in June 2019.

The depot will be built on a 5,600 sq m yard and will include accommodation, training facilities, offices, workshops, a laydown area and parking area. Sarens has already relocated 120-tonne and 60-tonne capacity rough terrain cranes, a 100-tonne capacity all-terrain crane as well as truck and trailer equipment to the site.

As part of its strategy to expand its presence in Mozambique, Sarens has also invested in training the local workforce. To date, the company has trained and certified three local crane operators and expects to have an established team of local people trained by the time the LNG project kicks off.

The November/December 2018 edition of HLPFI, which goes to press in the coming days, will review some of the opportunities and challenges facing those active in the Southern Africa project logistics market, with developments in Mozambique taking centre stage.
