January 24 - Wind power generating equipment and mobile harbour cranes were significant heavy lift and project cargo traffic through the north German Baltic port of Rostock in 2010, says a port spokesperson.

While the port is predominantly a bulk operator, terminals do accept heavy lift cargoes which are mainly export cargoes from north German manufacturers.

Wind power generating equipment exported through the port is constructed by Nordex just five kilometres from the port, while Liebherr MHCs are produced at a location within the port. Large pipes, up to 60 m in length and 7 m in diameter, are made by EEW Special Pipe Constructions, which is also located at the port and are also routinely exported from the port.
