May 31 - Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines' (IRISL) new general cargo service has made its first call at C. Steinweg's Süd-West Terminal in the Port of Hamburg with the vessel Sevgi.

The new service will call monthly at the Port of Hamburg and will link ports in Iran and the Middle East Gulf with northern European gateways.

The service will deploy multipurpose vessels with onboard cranes and carry conventional general cargo, as well as containers.

C. Steinweg's Süd-West Terminal features equipment for the handling of bulk and heavy cargoes, and the port expects to be loading machinery and plant for the Iranian oil, gas and mining sectors on the new service.

IRISL liner services will be represented in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands by IRISL Agency (North) - a joint venture between Peter W. Lampke (PWL) and IRISL (Europe).

Back in March, IRISL marked the resumption of its European Container Line (ECL) service between the Middle East Gulf and northern Europe with the call of the 2,500 teu containership, Azargoun, at the Port of Hamburg.
