ALE's Mega Jack in landmark lift

ALE has performed the load-out and installation of two 400-tonne steel wishbones for the new Matagarup Bridge on Perth’s Swan River.

For the first stage of the operation, ALE utilised barges on the Swan River to float the wishbones that form the large central arch of the bridge to the designated piers. ALE’s Mega Jack system was then used to raise the 120 m long wishbones up.

Once in place, strand jacks were used to hold the wishbones securely in place. They were then welded to form the central bridge arch, which reaches 72 m above water level at its highest point.

The final stage of the project involves floating five bridge decks under the arch, which will then connectto the bridge hangers.

Once completed, the Matagarup Bridge will be used by cyclists and pedestrians and will connect the eastern side of Perth city to the Burswood Peninsula.
