Enerpac barges into Antwerp

Roll-iT has recently used an Enerpac JS-250 jack-up system to assist with the transport a 300-tonne bridge deck from Ghent to Antwerp, through the Belgian canal network, onboard a Victrol pontoon.

It was impractical to use a crane due to the disruption to local traffic and services, and Roll-iT needed to raise the bridge deck by 10 m to ensure complete clearance and avoid obstacles.

The bridge deck on the Victrol pontoon ready for the 50km journey to Antwerp.

Roll-iT used a combination of 2 x 12-axle SPMT files and an Enerpac JS-250 jack-up system to lift the bridge deck and transport it onto the pontoon. Once the bridge deck was loaded, the jack-up towers were fully lowered and securely fastened to increase the pontoon's stability.

Raising the bridge deck ready for installation.

The new Londonburg Bridge will replace the previous bridge in Antwerp, and will accommodate two traffic lanes, foot and cycle paths, and a tram line.
