May 9 - Jumbo Shipping has completed the installation of five subsea structures for the PetroSA Ikhwezi project, offshore South Africa, using its heavy lift vessel Jumbo Fairplayer.

The Ikhwezi project is a subsea development that will play a role in extending to the working life of PetroSA's gas-to-liquid (GTL) refinery in Mossel Bay, South Africa. The installation is located 40 km off South Africa's south coast.

The five structures weighed between 35 and 185 tonnes, the largest measuring 14 m x 8 m x 5 m. Jumbo Fairplayer was mobilised from Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The project was executed on an intervention basis, meaning that Jumbo had to operate to a tight timescale. The structures had to be installed before the start of the South African winter, before sea states and weather conditions made the project impossible.

PetroSA is the national oil company of South Africa. Its main activities are the extraction of natural gas and production of synthetic fuels.
