January 20 - Landstar System has opened its new US/Mexico logistics service centre in Laredo, Texas.

The 31,000 sq ft (2,879.9 sq m) logistics facility is located on a 50-acre (47.5 ha) site that accommodates 450 trailers, which according to Landstar is 2.5 times the capacity of its previous facility.

The new facility features a 30 door cross dock of more than 20,000 sq ft (1,858.1 sq m), which Landstar says is designed to bring efficiencies to both less-than-truckload (LTL) and transload services.

The logistics centre also includes a dedicated heavy haul section featuring a 120-ton (119-tonne) capacity bridge crane, which has a clearance area of 35 ft (10.6 m) high and 37 ft (11.2 m) wide to accommodate large loads.

According to Steve Wisnieski, vice president of Mexico operations, Landstar Transportation Logistics: "Landstar commissioned and directed the design of the new bridge crane to meet our current and future needs, and to allow load transfers to happen safely and efficiently."
