March 13 - Liebherr Maritime Cranes has experienced continuing strong demand for its mobile harbour crane range in Latin America, with seven orders being placed by regional port and terminal operators.

Chile based Compania Portuaria Mejillones S. A. added a LHM 600 to its fleet, joining an LHM 500 that was delivered in 2008. The LHM 600 provides a maximum outreach of 58m and a maximum lifting capacity of 208 tonnes.

Another LHM 600 will soon be delivered to Terminal Puerto Arica S.A., based in the Chilean port of Arica. The crane is configured for dedicated container handling and will be the first Liebherr mobile harbour crane in operation at the terminal.

In Brazil, Manaus based port operator Chibatão Navegação e Comércio LTDA has enhanced its flexibility with the addition of a Liebherr barge slewing (LBS) 600 crane. The LBS 600 is a combination of the mobile harbour crane concept with a fixed pedestal mounted on a barge that replaces the crane's undercarriage. LBS cranes provide a space-saving solution for installation on quaysides and jetties, a key consideration in Manaus where room for manoeuvring is limited, said Liebherr Maritime Cranes.

During 2014, three LBS 600s will be installed in Manaus; an existing fleet of nine Liebherr fixed cargo cranes (FCC) and six Liebherr rubber tyre gantry (RTG) cranes is already in operation in the city.

In Peru, Callao S.A. has placed orders for two LHM 550 mobile harbour cranes scheduled for delivery in 2014, which will significantly increase container and bulk handling at the gateway. They will join two LHM 500s that were delivered to the port in 2012.
