July 3 - Mexican crane contractor ESEASA, has lifted and installed six tanks at the Miguel Hidalgo oil refinery in Tula, on behalf of construction contractor ICA Fluor.

The six tanks were manufactured in Spain and transported to Altamira, Mexico by ship. For the 1,000 km journey from Altamira to Tula, bridges, overhead cables, toll booths and signs had to be modified or removed to transport the tanks by road.

At the site, ESEASA utilised its Liebherr LR 13000 to hoist the tanks, each weighing 620 tonnes, to a hook height of 124 m. The crawler crane was configured with a 132 m main boom, including PowerBoom and the derrick boom together with 1,725 tonnes of ballast.

The Liebherr LR 11350 crawler crane was used for a tandem hoist to place the tanks in an upright position, while a LTR 1100 telescopic crawler crane removed the transport device from the tanks after they had been placed in position.

According to Liebherr, the Miguel Hidalgo oil refinery, which is owned by state oil group Pemex, is being modernised as part of energy reforms in Mexico, and upon completion in 2018 will produce up to 110,000 more barrels of pure petrol and diesel.
