March 18 - Liebherr unveiled its new 160-tonne capacity LTM 1160-5.2 mobile crane on a five-axle chassis at the Conexpo 2014 in Las Vegas.

The load capacity of the LTM 1160-5.2 has been increased by around 20-25 percent compared to its predecessor, the LTM 1160-5.1, while the telescopic boom has remained at the same length of 62 m.

The vehicle width has been reduced from 3 m to 2.75 m, meaning that it is easier to drive on public roads and constricted sites, explained Liebherr.

The superstructure of the new crane is powered by the engine in the crane chassis using a mechanical shaft, making it the second model to feature the innovative single-engine drive concept which Liebherr first presented at the Bauma 2013 for the LTM 1300-6.2.

With a 10.8 m to 19 m folding jib and additional telescopic boom extensions, the new 160-tonne capacity crane can achieve hoist heights of up to 93 m and outreaches of up to 76 m.

The maximum ballast of the crane is 54 tonnes with a width of 4.27 m, and the new model features the Liebherr LICCON2 crane control.
