October 18 - Lignes Maritimes Congolaises (LMC) has chartered the multipurpose ship, Thorco Reef, which will serve on the line's African services.

The 19,953 dwt Thorco Reef is a multipurpose tweendecker built in 2011, measuring 161.5 m long with a breadth of 25.2 m. The ship has three holds and is equipped with three 80-tonne lift capacity cranes, two of which can be used in tandem to lift 180 tonnes.

Broekman Logistics organised the ship charter on behalf of LMC.

The additional tonnage will enable LMC to extend its presence in the West African market both southbound and northbound. LMC offers regular direct sailings from Antwerp, Belgium to Boma and Matadi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Other ports can be called with sufficient inducement. Thorco Reef will be open in Antwerp/Vlissingen (Flushing) at the end of October for containers, breakbulk, project cargo, ro-ro and steel cargoes.

Broekman continues to serve as agent to LMC, and the line is not ruling out the possibility of chartering more tonnage in the near future.
