October 5 - Mammoet has utilised its PTC 200 DS ring crane to lift three columns at S-Oil's refinery in South Korea on behalf of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor DDJV, a joint venture formed by Daelim Industry and Daewoo Engineer

The PTC ring crane can turn 360 degrees, has a hoisting height up to 250 m and a lifting capacity of up to 5,000 tons (4,536 tonnes). This meant the crane was able to lift the three columns, which weighed between 1,089 and 2,095 tons (988 to 1,900.5 tonnes), from one position over the course of seven days.

Mammoet was contracted mid-way through the project to help with the installation schedule, as the initial plan involved a gantry system to lift the columns. According to Mammoet, this would require the relocation of the gantry for each lift and would result in an installation period of three months.

The columns will form part of the residue upgrading complex (RUC) under construction at the refinery.
