July 16 - Logistics Plus has coordinated the delivery of two 12.7-tonne wind turbine blades each measuring 58 m long, which arrived at the US port of Monroe from Bremen, Germany onboard Spliethoff's vessel Faglegracht, to a site in Gratiot County, Michiga

Faglegracht, which was also carrying 127 sections of 12.2 m long pipes for the Ohio gas line in Dundee, Michigan, was the first European cargo liner service to dock at the Port of Monroe since the 1960s, said Logistics Plus.

Logistics Plus is handling all domestic transportation of the cargo, which includes over 60 truck movements. As well as Spliethoff and the Michigan port, the project has involved coordination from a number of other parties, including DRM Terminal Services, Barnhart Crane and Rigging, Carl Polzin and cargo surveyors Mund + Bruns.

Paul LaMarre III, director of the Port of Monroe, was quoted in the local media as saying: "I think the Port of Monroe has not necessarily been seen as a potential gateway to international trade in recent history, but this is proof that our capabilities are far-reaching. It essentially takes our port from being a highly productive domestic cargo hub and broadens its reach across oceans."

Logistics Plus vice president of domestic operations Robert Hallberg added: "This is just one of many clean energy and pipeline cargo projects we are coordinating to the US from Europe. In the Port of Monroe, we have definitely found a port that can efficiently handle this kind of cargo for shipments being delivered to points in eastern Michigan and northwestern Ohio."
