South Africa’s P&L Machine Moving and Rigging has used an Enerpac SBL500 gantry system to position a refurbished 60-ton (54.3-tonne) skid-mounted electrical substation in preparation for onward transportation to Kriel.

The substation was loaded on to a flatbed truck for delivery to the Kriel colliery, located 45 km south of Witbank.

As the substation was too large to be loaded onto the trailer inside P&L’s Benoni warehouse, the refurbished skid was moved to the warehouse exit. Once outside, P&L lifted the skid with its Enerpac SBL500 hydraulic gantry, which has a maximum lifting capacity of 500 tons (453.6 tonnes).

The lowbed trailer subsequently reversed underneath the skid, which was then lowered onto the vehicle.

Upon arrival at the Kriel colliery, the skid-mounted substation was offloaded with mobile cranes.
