December 11 - Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) has reported that Chris Smith, senior programme manager for freight at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) has accepted a new position as director

SC&RA notes that among his accomplishments during nearly eight years at AASHTO, he was responsible for the organisation's successfully adopted Oversize/Overweight Permit Harmonization initiatives (phases 1 and 2). He also was instrumental in the formation of the Industry Advisory Group.

"I am ever grateful for the expertise and wisdom each of you has imparted to me," he said. "It has truly been a pleasure serving state transportation officials all across the country. And I am certain many of our paths will cross again in Virginia, as multimodal and freight transportation enters a new and exciting era."

Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) vice president Steven Todd noted that: "Chris will be missed by SC&RA and the specialised transportation industry because of his successful efforts to champion permit harmonisation among the states."
