April 15 - Heavy lift shipping line Rickmers-Linie has delivered the first ferry manufactured by a Bangladesh shipyard for European owners, on board the vessel Baltic Winter.

The Western Marine shipyard in Chittagong built the 470 tonne ferry, measuring 49.8 m long and 11.2 m wide. The vessel is capable of transporting 28 cars and 147 passengers.

Hundested-Rørvig Færgefart AS - the owner and operator of the newbuild - has named the vessel Isefjord.

Isefjord was lifted onto Baltic Winter using its two on board 400-tonne cranes. The vessel was then transported to Hendested, Denmark on a six-week voyage. Upon arrival, Isefjord was discharged directly waters of Kattegat.

"We accommodated this special shipment as part of our regular westbound service from the Bay of Bengal, India and Middle East back to Europe," noted Ulrich Ulrichs, chief operating officer and ceo of Rickmers-Linie.

HLPFI reported on April 8, 2013 that the Baltic Winter will be renamed Rickmers Dubai. It is the sister ship of Rickmers Chennai, that was chartered to the Rickmers-Linie fleet last week (http://tinyurl.com/cyd6ehg).
