March 1 - Southampton Cargo Handling (SCH) has expanded its fleet of project cargo handling equipment with the acquisition of a 72-tonne capacity modular spreader beam from Tilbury, UK based supplier Delphini.

The beam can be used with quayside or mobile cranes to lift overweight containers, casings or oversize cargoes. It features adjustable spreader bars that can be configured to fit different cargo dimensions.

SCH operations director Jamie Secker explained that previously the company would have been required to hire in this type of equipment as its current beams have a maximum capacity of 50 tonnes.

"Investing in our own variable lifting beams, in addition to our established skills in stowing and lashing, will enable us to offer a more flexible and efficient service for handling large and bulky cargoes," he added.
