March 12 - Seaway Heavy Lifting (SHL) has secured a large contract for the installation of monopiles and transition pieces at one of Europe's largest offshore wind farms in the North Sea.

SHL - a leading offshore installation contractor jointly owned by Subsea 7 and K&S Baltic Offshore (Cyrpus) - will install 80 monopiles and 32 transition pieces at the Gwynt y Môr Offshore wind farm, off the north Wales coast.

SHL's crane vessel Stanislav Yudin will travel to Liverpool Bay in May 2013 to collect and install the components.

Stanislav Yudin installed the first 80 monopiles at the offshore site in December 2012.

Gwynt y Môr is a shared investment between RWE Innogy, Stadtwerke München and Siemens. When completed the 576MW wind farm will provide power for approximately 400,000 homes.

RWE npower renewables' Gwynt y Môr project director, Toby Edmonds said: " The Stanislav Yudin is returning to Gwynt y Môr following a very successful campaign last year. It will be working alongside RWE's own vessel, Friedrich Ernestine, which has been operating throughout the winter carrying out drilling operations then grouting and installing transition pieces."
