September 3 - Austrian freight forwarder, Spedition Thomas has handled a multi-origin transport of a complete pollution cleaning facility.

Consignments are being shipped from The Netherlands, Germany, Italy and India to Jurong Island, off Singapore.

The first two shipments originated in India and were carried from Mumbai to Jurong Island by ship.

The breakbulk vessel Angela carried nine items with a total volume of 1,732 cu m directly to a berth on Jurong Island.

The second consignment was shipped via flat racks on the containership JPO Vela.

The biggest challenge was the filters which had dimensions of up to 8.5 m in diameter and a length of 10 m.

In India, Spedition Thomas worked with KOG India, and with Harbour Handlers in Singapore.

The latter really came into their own during the second shipment making sure that there were cranes available in the port of Singapore to unload the over-dimensional flat racks directly onto the barge for transport to Jurong Island.

The construction site will be completed in about 18 months, after which there will be many additional shipments including approximately 50 feu and 1,500 cu m of breakbulk cargo from across Europe.

Both Spedition Thomas and KOG India are members of The Heavy Lift Group a group of specialised heavy transport companies including forwarders and shipping lines.
