This week's round up of news from the world of heavy lift and project forwarding.

Bloomberg's New Energy Finance report predicts that USD3.6 trillion will be invested in power generation equipment and related infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region between now and 2030, with approximately two thirds earmarked for renewable power projects.

It adds that the region will account for more than half of the 5 terawatts of net new power capacity that will be added worldwide in the next decade and a half. China is set to double its capacity in the period, while India is forecast to see a quadrupling, all of which should be music to the ears of project forwarders.

OXL has satisfied Belgian administrators and its creditors that it is a credible ongoing concern, having restructured the operational and strategic sides of its business.

Bahri obtained approval to merge with the fleet and operations of Saudi Aramco subsidiary Vela International Marine.

Intermarine entered into a joint venture with Angolan company Transtar Transitario to form Transmarine.

NCSG Crane & Heavy Haul Corporation has agreed that NCA and TriWest can purchase a majority interest in the company.

Hansa Heavy Lift's new Argentinian agent is Platetrade SA.


Capacity developments

Royal Wagenborg's 23,000 dwt multipurpose dry cargo vessel Roerborg is scheduled for launch today in Leer, Germany.

Terex officially unveiled the new Boom Booster kit for its CC 8800-1 crawler crane, which increases the crane's lifting capacity by up to 90 percent. Havator Crane Rental also took delivery of its fourth 500-tonne capacity Terex AC 500-2 all terrain crane.

MeteoGroup introduced a new product - LightningTracker - which provides lightning detection data for weather-critical businesses.

Goldhofer delivered its fifth Faktor 5 high girder bridge to Allelys Heavy Haulage.

Two new VEKA pontoons arrived in Rotterdam from China, for delivery to Royal Wagenborg and Muller Dordrecht.

The delivery of an LTM 1500-8.1 mobile crane to Mexico's Grupo DPH was the 30,000th supplied by Liebherr-Werk Ehingen.


Shipments of the week

Alcor Marine Construction and Special Transportation transported a fully-assembled Liebherr gantry crane by barge from Derince Port to Evyap Port (pictured top right).

BBC Chartering's heavy lift vessel BBC Xingxang delivered ten heavy-duty locomotives (pictured second right) to Mozambique.

A2SEA's jack-up barge SEA JACK installed the last turbine at the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm off the North Wales coast.

Volga-Dnepr Airlines used an AN-124-100 and an IL-76TD-90VD freighter to deliver more than 80 tonnes of oil and gas equipment to Cape Town in South Africa (pictured bottom right).

Capital projects and contracts

ABB won an order worth USD78 million from Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to supply transformers for two new combined-cycle power plants.

Statoil and Statkraft will start building the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of Norfolk, UK in 2016.

Siemens Energy has secured its first wind power contract in Belgium: 11 direct drive wind turbines for the Siemens D3 platform.

On the move

Former DB Schenker director and head of air freight at Panalpina, Steve Williams (pictured), joined Allport Cargo Services as managing director of air freight, while the JAXPORT board of directors elected four new officers, including John Falconetti as new chairman of the board. BigLift Shipping opened a new office in Steinkirchen, Germany, to be headed up by Hans Jörn Schinke. Damco appointed Thomas Knudsen as regional head of its Asia business.


Network news

The XLProjects (XLP) network welcomed Bellville Rodair International as a member in the UK and Turkey, while Universal Transport joined the Global Project Logistics Network (GPLN) with its Czech and German offices. The Project Cargo Network (PCN) introduced new specialised websites for its 230+ members. The network's head office was also awarded the ISO 14001 Environmental Management standard, as well as renewing its ISO 9001 Quality Management System certification.


All about Evie

Evie was excited to hear news that Austral Asia Line has introduced a passenger service where travellers can experience life on board a cargo ship, while enjoying views of the Asia Pacific ocean.

She heard that two of the line's 31,000 dwt vessels will now carry passengers to places in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Rim, and is hoping that she can hitch a lift for her summer holiday.
