November 1 - South Africa based heavy lift and plant relocation specialist Vanguard has recently completed the transportation of a second mill shell for supply chain solutions provider UTi Projects from South Africa to the Mopani Copper Mine in Zambia.

The 110 tonne mill shell, measuring 11.3 m x 5.4 m x 5.8 m, was directly offloaded from the ship onto Vanguard's new Goldhofer multi-axle trailer with 10-axle configuration.

Juan Johnson , specialised transport manager at Vanguard , said: "The mill shell was transported from Richards Bay, through Botswana and a small section of Namibia, and finally into Zambia. Vanguard, having used the same route to transport a mill shell to the Mopani Copper Mine last year, was familiar with the roads and the logistics required for the journey."

He added: "The journey to Mufulira took about six weeks, including time spent at the border, and less than one weekback to South Africa."
