UK freight forwarding company R.M. Maritime has contracted Associated British Ports (ABP) to handle steel at the port of Immingham.
According to ABP, it will be handling 40,000 tonnes of steel each year, destined to be used in the construction industry in the UK.
In its first shipment, ABP discharged 12,579 tonnes of steel beams from a 147-m long general cargo ship, New Age.
The steel, imported from the United Arab Emirates, will be stored externally and then distributed by road to Rainham Steel, which is based in Scunthorpe.
