Cosco names 62,000 dwt multipurpose vessel

Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers has held a naming ceremony for its 62,000 dwt multipurpose ship.

The vessel has been christened Zhong Yuan Hai Yun Kai Tuo and is one of three scheduled for delivery this year. Delivery of the other two vessels is expected to take place in March and May this year.

It measures 201.8 m long, 32.26 m wide, with a draught of 13.3 m and cargo hold capacity of approximatly 72,500 cu m. It is equipped with two 75-ton (68-tonne) capacity cranes, which can work in tandem to lift 150 tons (136 tonnes).

The vessel is capable of accepting large shipments, as well as pulp; the hatch covers and cargo compartments are specifically designed to handle the latter. 
Late last year, Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers ordered a further five 62,000 dwt multipurpose ships, plus four options. As reported by HLPFI in November 2018, those vessels will also be used to support pulp transport contracts.
