July 9 - Germany headquartered logistics giant DB Schenker has established a new entity in Laos, trading under the name Schenker (Lao) Sole Co., Ltd, to better serve its customers across the region.

Present in Laos since 2001 through its representative office, Schenker (Thai) Ltd, the move to establish a legal entity in Laos signifies DB Schenker's commitment to the region, enabling the company to expand its service offerings whilst being more competitively priced.

DB Schenker will build a 3,000 sq m logistics facility in Vientiane as well as establishing a comprehensive human resources programme to increase the knowledge and capabilities of local logistics professionals.

Victor Lim, DB Schenker's md for Thailand, Myanmar and Laos, commented: "With Laos holding a key geographical position and sharing its borders with some of the most important economies in the region, it is imperative that we grow our international trucking services to let our customers have the choice of using the most cost effective mode of transport for their goods.

"This is an important milestone in our rich history in the Indochina region. This step is to enable our customers to take the full advantage of the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community regulations and be competitive in the region."
