DFDS adds to lifting capacity in Immingham

DFDS has taken delivery of a 124-tonne lifting capacity Liebherr mobile harbour crane at its terminal in Immingham, UK in preparation for the launch of enhanced DFDS liner services between Immingham, Norway and Belgium at the start of 2019.

Andrew Byrne, managing director of DFDS Seaways, and Alan Finch, DFDS terminal director.

With a 48 m main boom, DFDS said the twin-lift container spreader enhances its lo-lo container operations, as well as the terminal’s project and breakbulk cargo handling abilities.

Terminal director, Alan Finch, said: “The new Liebherr LMH 420 crane will operate in conjunction with our existing Gottwald crane to maximise the lifespan of the older equipment.

“With this significant investment we can lift even heavier cargoes for third-partyshippers with the flexibility of shorter lead times,” added Finch.

Andrew Byrne, managing director of DFDS Seaways, explained: “The new GBP3 million (USD3.79 million) crane is part of an exciting investment and expansion programme at Immingham. Despite the present global uncertainty we are growing our range of services and improving the experience for our customers.”

In 2019, DFDS said it will continue to enhance its cargo handling services. In addition to expanding its workforce, the company has acquired a larger footprint on the dock to handle increased volumes of cargo.
