MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has awarded a contract to Fred. Olsen Windcarrier for the installation of 100 V164 9.5 MW turbines for the Moray East project off the east coast of Scotland.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier will deploy one of its Tern Class vessels for the project; the port of Invergordon has been selected as the pre-assembly harbour.

“We have been working with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind on various offshore wind projects over the last years and during 2018, we installed more than 100 V164 turbines in the North Sea. However, the Moray East contract award is the first installation contract where Fred. Olsen Windcarrier is contracted directly by MHI Vestas Offshore Wind,” said Casper Toft, cco at Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.

The 950 MW, 295 sq km Moray East project is scheduled to commence in 2021 and is the first part of the Moray Firth Zone to be developed.
