Harren & Partner (H&P) has acquired the offshore construction vessel Blue Giant for an undisclosed price from the UK-based operator, OIG Group.

H&P’s offshore department, headed by Robert Fowler, will be responsible for managing the vessel.

Peter Harren, founder and managing director of H&P, said: “Alongside our classic offshore activities, we also wish to further strengthen our position in attractive niche markets such as the salvage business, where this vessel also has possibilities for deployment.”

The vessel has been under the technical management of H&P since 2011 and has already been used on a variety of oil and gas projects, including the installation and maintenance of oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico for Pemex.

While the primary focus for H&P will be on the oil and gas market, the Bremen-based shipping company will also use the vessel for renewable energy projects.

The offshore construction vessel measures 179.63 m in length and has a breadth of 25.4 m. It features a combined crane capacity of up to 700 tonnes.
