PEMA and TT Club co-operate to promote port equipment safety

March 20 - The Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) and TT Club have announced that they will co-operate to promote best practice in the safe design and operation of port equipment worldwide.

As the leading insurer to the global marine terminal market, TT Club has a wealth of insight into the key factors contributing to accidents involving port equipment, including ship to shore cranes, straddle carriers, yard cranes and smaller mobile equipment. PEMA will now feature TT Club's research and advisories on its website at www.pema.org and will work with the Club to highlight the role of equipment design and technology in reducing port accidents and loss.

"We are delighted to co-operate with the TT Club in increasing knowledge and awareness of such a vital aspect of the port equipment business," said Ottonel Popesco, PEMA President. "The equipment sector has a very important role to play in aiding port safety and TT Club looks forward to a productive relationship with PEMA," said Laurence Jones.

PEMA and TT Club will jointly host a workshop on "Port Equipment Safety and Loss Prevention - Strategies and Technologies to Minimise Risk" at the 34th TOC Europe conference, 16-18 June, Bremen. Taking place on the morning of Thursday 18 June, the workshop will provide insight into the major causes of equipment accidents and loss, operational and management strategies to minimise risk, and new technologies to improve safety and reduce loss. The workshop is open to all delegates, exhibitors and visitors attending TOC Europe, where PEMA will also exhibit.
