Sarens loads-out for Sverdrup

Sarens has completed the load-out, weighing and jacking of an oil platform module destined for the Johan Sverdrup oil field in Stord, Norway.

The Belgium-headquartered heavy lift and engineered transport provider was contracted by Kvaerner, which is building the housing platform in partnership with KBR.

For the load-out operation, Sarens transported the module, which measured 110 m x 61 m x 26 m, from the fabrication hall to the barge, a distance of approximately 200 m, using 432 axle lines of Kamag SPMTs, 22 power packs, 18 ballast pumps, 24 driving ramps and 700 tonnes of support steel.

Sarens operators then used 32 500-tonne-capacity weighing cells to determine the module's exact weight, which totalled 12,200 tonnes.

The module was subsequently jacked 13 m above the barge deck using four towers of the CS 5000 jacking system.

The platform, which will house more than 200 workers, will stay in the dock at the yard before being transported to the oil field in the North Sea in early 2019. Sarens will return to the Stord site for the final weighing in September 2018, at which point the module is expected to weigh approximately 20,000 tonnes.
