Abkatun sets sail

The 15,000 tonne PB-Abkatun-A2 oil and gas production platform has set sail from Altamira, Mexico.

McDermott manufactured the platform at its fabrication yard in Altamira on behalf of Pemex. The USD454 million engineering, procurement, construction and installation and commissioning (EPCIC) project was awarded to McDermott in June 2016.

Installation of Abkatun will begin this month in Mexico's Bay of Campeche utilising McDermott's Amazon, DB50 and Intermac 650 vessels. It will expand the capabilities of Pemex’s existing Abkatun Pol Chuc facilities. Following commissioning, this high-capacity production platform is rated to produce 220,000 barrels of oil per day and 150 million of cu ft of  gas per day.
