ALE has been contracted to provide the marine transportation, seafastening, load-out and ballasting of more than 100 transition pieces for Orsted's Hornsea Project One, located in the North Sea.

Conbit is providing the specialist offshore engineering for the project, on behalf of its parent company, ALE.

Conbit has developed a unique grillage design for the safe transport of the transition pieces by barge. Conbit also performed the structural integrity assessments and seafastening calculations of the grillages on the barge deck.

Once loaded on ALE's SARAH S barge, the transition pieces will be transported along the River Tees to the discharge berth. Conbit also provided engineering design for storage and SPMT handling during transport operations at the yard.

For the storage at the quay, Conbit designed bespoke monopile cradles, which minimised the need for welding works and therefore reduced costs.

To date, ALE has loaded-out the first five transition pieces and successfully completed the first discharge onto the offshore installation vessel.
