Topside takes shape in Texas

ALE has used its AL.SK350 super-heavy lift crane, featuring a lifting moment of 354,000 tonne/metres, to place the first of three modules on top of an offshore topside in Texas, USA.

Rigged with a 124 m main boom and a 49 m ballast radius, the AL.SK350 is fitting the modules as a part of trial run, ahead of their permanent installation in Israel.

All three modules, which have a combined weight of 6,614 tonnes, will be fitted in Ingleside. The first of which was a 1,200-tonne heater module. It was lifted with an installation outreach of 63.1 m.

The modules will subsequently be removed in the second quarter of 2019.

Filippo Anello, ALE global projects division director, explained: “As there was minimal space to position the crane, it could only be rigged in one location to perform all of the lifts – making the AL.SK350 the ideal piece of equipment.”

ALE added that significant time will be saved by not relocating the crane for each lift.
