Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean (WW Ocean) has transported six 30.81-tonne railcars from Spain to Ecuador for the Metro de Quito (MDQ) project.

In August, the six railcars were loaded on board the ro-ro vessel Toledo for the 31-day voyage to the port of Manta.

According to WW Ocean, this was the first shipment of train components that the port had ever received.

Having been unloaded onto trucks, the second leg of the cargo’s journey – from the vessel in Manta to Quito – involved crossing 400 km of mountains.

The metro line, spanning 22 km with 15 stations, is expected to open at the end of 2019.
