Heavy Lift Across the World

First for pioneering Spirit

Allseas’ installation and decommissioning vessel Pioneering Spirit has installed the 22,000-tonne drilling platform topsides for Equinor’s Johan Sverdrup development on the Norwegian continental shelf.

According to Allseas, this was the first platform installation performed by Pioneering Spirit and the heaviest installation executed in a single lift offshore.

Pioneering Spirit’s topsides lift system beams positioned the topsides on an eight-legged steel jacket standing at 110 m water depth.

The 147 m tall topsides were loaded on to Pioneering Spirit from a barge in Bømlafjorden, outside Stord in Norway.

Once loaded, the vessel began the nine hour journey to the Johan Sverdrup field, located 160 km west of Stavanger, Norway.

The installation operation, including manoeuvring around the jacket, setting down the topsides and moving out of the 500 m zone, took approximately three hours.
