Mitsubishi Heavy targets higher sales

The report says that the comprehensive heavy-machinery firm, which positions those fields as its priority business areas, intends to tap growing investments worldwide to cut carbon dioxide emissions, adding that by product, Mitsubishi Heavy plans to focus on gas turbines for power utilities, nuclear-power-related equipment and wind turbines.

By introducing highly efficient new products and bolstering its production capacity, the company aims to lift its global share in the large-gas-turbine market from the current 23% to 300y 2012.

It also plans to double sales of nuclear power equipment to 600 billion yen in 10 years by promoting its proprietary large reactor, as well as a midsize reactor to be co-developed with Areva of France.

Since the establishment in April 2008 of a section to oversee business strategies in the energy and environment fields, Mitsubishi Heavy has been working to integrate products from different sections to supply not just components, but also complete energy- and environment-related systems.
