Nordic Heavy Lift sheds contracts for Borealis construction

December 17 - Rotterdam-based Nordic Heavy Lift (NHL) has sold the construction contracts for the heavy lift crane ship Borealis to a subsidiary of London-based Acergy Group, the seabed-to-surface engineering and construction contractor to the offshore oi

Acergy will complete the Borealis and install pipe-laying capacity on board. The ship, under construction at the Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore, is a DP3 dynamic positioning ship equipped with a 5,000 tonne crane.

The company has plans to install a 1,000 tonne J-Lay tower and state-of-the-art 600 tonne S-Lay equipment. It will also be fitted with a range of support systems and construction equipment for worldwide deepwater and harsh environment operations.

Final completion and operational delivery of the ship is scheduled for H1 2012. Total costs, upon delivery, are expected to be less than USD 500 million, including approximately USD 260m relating to the acquisition of the ship and delivery as per the original design, funded entirely from the company's existing cash resources.
